This company made an announcement about their top-of-the-line AI program, called Gemini. They said the “Pro” version will be available for users of its AI Studio programming tool right away. This is pretty big because it allows individuals and small teams to throw together an app using mostly natural-language prompting.
The company is also going to make Gemini available in Duet AI and Vertex AI over the next few weeks, two coding tools that come with generative AI enhancements. That’s powerful stuff.
The Gemini AI program is part of a big infrastructure that Google is offering not just internally, but also to customers. It’s got that custom AI chip, the Tensor Processing Unit, which is pretty amazing. And the company also announced the general availability of TPU v5p, which increases the performance of TPUs by four times over the existing v4 chips. That’s a big improvement.
The AI studio is meant for individuals and small teams and you can use a preview of Gemini Pro in AI Studio with a free quota of 60 requests per minute. That’s 20 times as many as other free programming tools. And there’s this cool demo of building a real estate broker application in AI Studio using mostly natural-language prompting.
Google is doing this AI summit for developers. That’s big time. Watch out for the Pro version of Gemini, it’s one of three versions, the other two being Ultra and Nano. Ultra is currently in private preview with select customers to get feedback, while Nano is going to be released on mobile devices. It’s already running on Google’s Pixel 8 smartphone. This is some groundbreaking stuff.
They also announced a new version of its text-to-image neural network, Imagen 2, which it says has greater capabilities for inserting corporate brands into images (like your company logo on a toothpaste tube in a picture of a bathroom.)
And there are a lot of other cool updates, like how the Gemini program avoids “hallucinations” and some breakthroughs they made this year. So that’s the big news out of Google today. Gonna be some cool stuff coming out soon. Keep your eyes on this.
