So Intel just dropped some next-gen chips designed to power AI applications, including a slicked-up Gaudi3 AI accelerator. You know, they’ve been trying to catch up with the big dogs like TSMC and AMD, and now they’re making their move, unveiling these bad boys. And of course, they’re going hard on the AI angle.
CEO Pat Gelsinger was throwing out some bold claims, talking about how AI innovation could make up a huge chunk of the global economy. He’s all about empowering customers to seamless integrate and rock AI in all their applications, whether it’s in the cloud or right there at the PC and edge where the data is happening.
They’re really pushing the AI agenda, launching the Intel Core Ultra and the AI-accelerated 5th Gen Xeon for the enterprise. It’s a whole mission for them to make AI the norm, with these engineered platforms and support for open ecosystems.
And then they gave us a sneak peek at the Gaudi3 AI accelerator that’s coming next year. Gelsinger was hyped about it, showing off this next-gen AI accelerator for deep learning and large-scale generative AI models. They’re claiming it’s going to capture a big part of the accelerator market in 2024.
And they’re not just stopping there. The Intel Core Ultra is getting some AI upgrades, too. They’re bringing out this neural processing unit for power-efficient AI acceleration that’s supposed to be way better than the previous generation. And they’re talking big upgrades for the GPU and CPU too. It’s a bold move.
They’re also talking up their Xeon line, saying it’s the only mainstream data center processor with built-in AI acceleration. They’re going hard after the network and edge workloads, looking to make life easier for communication service providers and a bunch of different industries. Plus, they got IBM on board, showing big improvements in query throughput compared to previous-gen Xeon processors.
So it’s pretty clear that Intel is betting big on AI to take back their crown as the leading chipmaker. It’s a bold strategy, and we’ll see how it plays out.
