Alright, check this out, there was a big ol’ blowout between these two tech big shots at a birthday party. This was back in 2015, at this three-day bash that was thrown for the Tesla CEO by his then-wife, Talulah Riley. Anyway, Elon Musk and Google cofounder Larry Page got into it big time about artificial intelligence. Apparently, Page went off on Musk, accusing him of being a “specieist” for supposedly favoring human beings over future digital life forms. Can you believe that? It was a rather heated discussion that was over whether intelligent machines would merge with humanity or just straight up destroy us. And this wasn’t the only time these two bumped heads over AI. Larry Page had also dropped millions to acquire an AI lab called DeepMind. Musk, though, had tried to convince the founder to reject the offer. And Musk later left OpenAI’s board after it was having its own disagreements about the dangers of AI. The tension was real, man. And to top it all off, there were even real-world consequences as one of the cofounders of OpenAI was ousted from the company. Wild stuff, right?
