OpenAI is having some issues, man. They’ve been getting knocked offline the last day or so by DDoS attacks. It’s not really clear why it’s happening, but OpenAI confirmed earlier today that they’re dealing with distributed denial-of-service attacks. They have been having periodic outages due to this crazy traffic pattern reflecting these attacks. It’s causing some hitches, too, with ChatGPT showing errors when people use it.
And then you’ve got these dudes, Anonymous Sudan, claiming responsibility for the outage. They say it’s because of OpenAI’s bias towards Israel and against Palestine. They’re using this thing called the SkyNet botnet that’s been around for a bit, but now it’s adding application layer attacks. These dudes are targeting the application level to throw loads of requests at the services, so the servers just can’t handle the volume. It’s pretty gnarly, man. They did something similar to Microsoft not too long ago too. And they might not even be who they say they are, some experts think they’re linked to Russia.
But yeah, OpenAI hasn’t commented on all of this yet. It’s a real mess.
