But you gotta wonder, right? If they can just swap out their core values like it’s nothing, were they even core values in the first place? I mean, come on! It’s like they can change them as easily as changing their socks.
Now, let’s dig a little deeper into this “AGI Focus” thing. You see, their CEO, this dude named Sam Altman, he wrote a blog post back in February, saying AGI is all about systems that are smarter than us humans. But then, in some fancy interview with New York Magazine, he downgraded the definition to AI that’s just as average as your office buddy. What gives, man? Make up your mind!
Now, just to make things even more confusing, OpenAI’s goals have been all over the place. They started out as this nonprofit research lab, you know, trying to build good AI to counteract the bad stuff. Elon Musk was in on it too, but he bailed in 2019 when it turned into a for-profit gig. And that’s not the only thing that changed. Their self-descriptions have been shifting too. It’s like they can’t make up their damn minds!
So yeah, this new list of core values might sound like a bunch of fluffy nonsense. But it does give us a peek into OpenAI’s laser focus on the future. They’re all about building this AGI that’s gonna change the game and have a massive positive impact on humanity. Anything that doesn’t contribute to that grand plan is out of the picture, according to their job postings.
